What is “Genetic Memory?”

We know that certain biological physical traits are passed down through genes. That’s why you’ve got your “father’s nose” and your brother has your “grandmother’s eyes.” The theory – theoretical no longer! – of genetic memory takes this one step further and posits that DNA contains so much more information just waiting to be mined. We’ve discovered the double helix is a cornucopia of experiences, memories, and skill sets just waiting to be unlocked.

Think about the migratory urges of birds, or the need for some animals to hibernate. Some never seen this modeled; how do they know what to do? It turns out the explanation lies with genetic memory.

But human beings are not mere animals, and thanks to the Animus, we are able to access much more than primitive instincts. We can see what our ancestors saw, feel what they felt, know what they knew, with the added benefit of our own 21st-century consciousness to provide perspective.

Who designed the Animus?

The late Warren Vidic, one of the world’s leading authorities on the genetic memory, brought thirty years of research to creating the first Animus prototype. He was supervisor of the project from its inception until his untimely death in December 2012. Thanks to Dr. Vidic’s groundbreaking work, new avenues of knowledge and experiences are now open to our testsubjects, and, through Abstergo Entertainment and the new Helix Project, soon to perhaps millions of others as well.

How does it work?

Animus technology functions in much the way a simulator/projector does. Your consciousness will tap into the genetic coding in such a way that everything will appear to all your senses as three-dimensional – putting you in the heart of the action. It’s adaptive, so as the memories unfold, the “program” you experience begins to change subtly. They will appear to you as glitches and let you explore a memory much more closely.

While this is necessary for maximum benefit and, of course, your safety, we want the experience to be as smooth as possible. To that end, the Animus creates areas outside of the simulation: Memory Corridors and the White Room. The Memory Corridor functions like a loading screen, enabling a safe and efficient transition from one set of memories to another. At certain junctures, you’ll experience a White Room effect, which enables you to focus carefully on information that will be conveyed.

We furhter look out for our Research Analysts’ well-being through something we call “synchronization.” This means monitoring and controlling what you experience and remember in order to reduce potential distress. The Animus Omega can automatically reconstruct memories tailored to what each tester can or cannot adjust to, to further decrease the already slim risk. It grows and adapts with you. Think about training in the gym – the more you work out, the fitter you become, and the more weight you can lift. So, the more time you spend in the Animus, the better you can synchronize with what it can offer you. It’s the same idea.

So Abstergo Industries takes care of the safety issues, and the Animus takes me on the journey, what do I need to do?

We like to say, “Sit back and enjoy the ride.” But, of course, there’s a little more to it than that. We will need you to bring yourself into the pictures sometimes, instead of simply reliving your ancestor’s memories.

What that means is, from time to time, you’ll make judicious use of the White Room. You’ll take the time to master a skill so you can progress through the memories more swiftly and with more efficiency. We’ll be monitoring and recording what you see and experience as well, of course, so don’t ever worry that you’ll be alone!

Finally, once you are back to “yourself,” we’ll ask you to write down your thoughts, observations, feelings, and so on at certain phases. Your supervisor will critique your report and perhaps ask some follow-up questions.

We do this because as a Research Analyst, you’re in the thick of the action, not us, and you are the best person to report on what you’re experiencing! This also helps us make extra sure that your well-being isn’t being harmed in any way.

We understand this is a lot to take in. Remember, you supervisor is your best friend, so if you ever have any questions or concerns, please feel free to bring them up to him or her.

Hey guys. I just wanna say I’m a assassin and have ties with the Templar commandery. You guys gotta know that back in ancient times of our old fathers. The objectives of assassins and the Templar order were very similar. The templars are not what you think now a days. If you guys need the info your looking for then contact your local grand lodge and talk to a brother and make up your mind on them and not the thoughts of others. Now adays we all need to help each other from a lot worse things than the Templar order!

Do people seriously believe this? This post (and the site in general) are just a reference to Abstergo from the AC series. There was no kidnapping, there are no assassins today (there weren’t any assassins in general, the name “assassin” was inspired from the “haseshino” which was a group of killers that never conflicted with the templars), no templars (there may be people that believe in the Templar cause) and no animus. Genetic memories may or may not be real (haven’t really looked into it), but if they are, humanity still lacks the technology necessary to project these memories in 3d and do whatever an animus does

Thank you for the question Nick, but you must order it online. We just think it is too dangerous to keep it in a facility that can be driven to by any person to make a purchase of a Animus. So we secure our Animuses in a classified location. You can still order it online though. I hope I have helped with your question.

I admire your input and dedication to our cause and indeed, I’m impressed by your work however, the information found in the animus is to be “altered” to better suit our audience. I have recently found a few “misinterpretations ” in memory 002876 uploaded to the public Helix servers where the “hooded” men are shown as public servants and boasted for their criminal deeds against the hard-working, honest men who had dedicated their lives to protect the people from themselves. I believe a glitch has occured, or something of a nefarious nature is involved. Either way, I expect you look into this and remediate the issue as soon as possible.

That is rather alarming. Based on the latest test it does not seem that anything was hacked technology-wise or tampered with. My division has been working more towards the operational side of Abstergo this past year and left the bulk of the work to your division mainly and a bit towards the Linage and Subject Acquisition department. It may be third-party interference as well; in which case, depending on intensity, I will either have my Epsilon Team take care of the issue or delegate it to Sigma Team. You say the Assassin’s work for the liberty and freedom of the people GMan3201, but it was the colonial Assassin’s who took this away from the people in Lisbon and in Haiti. The now Templar, Shay Patrick Cormac, saw this as a threat to the world and its population. Yes he betrayed the order, but it saved the world. This might not be enough evidence to counteract what you’re your saying. BUT people should really know the truth, and not the lies that come from the Assassin’s.

I risk everything I’ve ever known by sayig this, yet it needs to be said. If my family or even my friends see this, please know that I am sorry for all the pain that I will be causing you by posting this. However, know that the lives of not only the country, but the entirety of the Earth is at stake.
Abstergo is not something to be admired. Rather, it is something to be destroyed. By allowing this foul company to go through your memories, you are giving them access to everything that your ancestors have tried to hide! Pieces of Eden should NEVER fall into the hands of this company, yet that is all they seek by their combination of machinery and devilry that they call the Animus.

If only genetic memories of our ancestors really could be unlocked within us. What a world that would be! I’d love to relive some parts of the lives of the vast amounts of royal ancestors I have. That would be beyond amazing! Or perhaps live out the memories of the ancestor that served as part of General Washington’s elite guard during the Revolutionary War. What a thing to experience! If only… A well. At least we have our fantasies. And we can play at being an assassin or a pirate assassin any time we want! And with PSVR, we can almost feel like we are using an animus, except for the graphics not looking totally real. Anyway, this site is a hoot & a half! It’s like April Fools all the time on this site! Love it! Wish it was real so I could experience Braveheart for real (granted from Robert the Bruce & Longshanks’ perspectives, but still, would be cool). Would also be cool to experience Mary, Queen of Scots’, memories or maybe Henry VII or Charlemagne or William the Conqueror. Off to do some more genealogy work now. Or play Black Flag…

Although true that we cannot actually access genetic memories we have ran tests under the exact same assumption that Abstergo has. These tests where only able to go as far back as to show ancestral migrations throughout time since our DNA is fixed at birth.

HOWEVER!

Research into brain-copying has been underway for a few years now. We have successfully recorded dreams and implanted dreams into patients via fMRI technology. Using the same results we got a step closer towards duplicating one’s conscious and memories into a machine; reaching such a stage in science might mean that a real animus is not that far away.

Who knows, maybe science will find out that all that “junk” dna is actually genetic ancestral memories, lol. So, maybe someday we will relieve our ancestors memories.

As to genealogy, I’m astartiel on geni.com, which is like the twitter of genealogy and open to the public… I’ve been doing work for many years helping connect the dots on my family tree to the genetic “world tree” they’ve been growing on geni.com

Of course, after ten generations, the amount of dna we share with our ancestors is so miniscule, it might not even matter much, but it’s fun to learn who we came from, regardless of how much blood we actually share.

What would be more fascinating is having our DNA tell us the future and not only/rather than the past. Studies prove that with right genetic studies, one can determine all the health risks a baby will go through and/or develop through its entire life starting from birth; asthma, diabetes and maybe even cancer.

I have been suffering from a delusional memory gain and loss symptoms, PFA’ Getting to know more about my Ancestors, i occasionally suffered going into a past memory standing right in front of my Great great grandfathers;

Ok so in the animus you can relive a part of your ancestors memory through synchronization with your genes of someone in your past. What if im looking for something and have something that you need from my past. The DNA ancestry family relations I know of are the viking clan that first settled in england, there is quite a few places in yorkshire named after the hodgson clan actully. I wanted to also notice some People on here that that think the templars and/or assassins are disbanded today. Both organisations are going strong. A lot of people believe and have been told that the true templar order/bloodlines were killed off during the great burnings. But in fact there were, Im fairly sure that there were three of the true bloodlines that three survived and escaped the fate therefore after continuing their craft as a society hidden from the masses. Just a tip look up the masonic “Scottish rite” and you guys might learn something about the modern templars. Which I actually have been asked and excepted into there lodge just recently. The templar path is a road chosen in the masonic ranks after you reach 3rd degree master. Then you can decide on ether the Scottish or York rite pathway. I’ve probally all ready saod to much myself. Just try to be careful and think about what words you say about all these kinds of clans/society’s. They are invisible entity’s for a reason and most bothers are wiser and more powerful than you can even start to imagine. Thats if your not actually part of a group like this. Just a heads up that you can never know how strong something that doesn’t to exist really is until you are that secret.

Our company has been recently investigating into something we like to call Full-Dive VR. Your Animus project mostly fits description of Full-Dive VR technology, but there is one key factor that can decide whether or not, does it qualify.

Can you, using Animus, instead of playing back genetic memories, show a world that never existed, theoretically, completely fabricate the open world inside it?
Here lies the problem I need answered. From what was my team able to find, there is this “synchronisation” issue, where, if the player gets off of certain path too much, or goes to sertain areas, the player desynchronises, and restarts from fully synchronised point.

Now, the problem with open worlds is, that there isn’t a certain path a character takes, each character is competely new, and fully controled by the player, to the smallest aspect, there is no set path for it that can be “set in stone”, my team has concerns, that this could cause problems with your Animus technology.

My question is this, can you fabricate a “memory” for Aminus, that evolves with the players choices, and can never result in desynchronisation, except desynchronisation by character’s death?

although the post on the subject of VR, didn’t quite answer my question.

The VR project you sent me, is not Full-Dive technology, unlike your Animus, which is very close to that, if not it.

Again, the project was handed over to another team; maybe you can get to them from that post. Reports do show that this set allows and incorporates and further enhances the full-dive experiences from Helix and the Animus as well as adds many more options and worlds to explore. I hope that answer helps.

I was reading some of your conversations and one of them said the Templars died out a few years back. I was wondering, since the templars died out, why are the assassins still here? And why keep going back in time to find the pieces of Edan? I mean when we go into the Animus all we do is go back to the Templars and assassins who had or at least knew where the pieces were. You have no use for the Apple of Edan, or any of the other pieces of Edan of that matter, since you claim to not be templars. And why keep Desmond’s body, or any body’s body? Yes i know it for the research, but when you go through the ‘lost’ flies it shows that the only reason you have them is because they are assassins. Also to be honest, i truly believe that people willingly ‘donated’ their blood/DNA/body to help with you’re research.

Here is a small clarification about the historical aspect. The Templars did not die out, the assassins did. After the Templars eradicated the assassins, they were disbanded by the church; some members were killed under false accusations of magic usage and satanic worshiping (both of which are false accusations). The accusations were then proven wrong and their real intent was only to drive Templars away in order to seek the power and lands that the Templars owned and protected throughout the world.

The pieces of Eden contain mysteries and technology that we believe can be used differently in order to help our planet. It is in our belief that pieces such as The Ring may be used, altered and manufactured differently to become what may be the world’s first complete cure for cancer and other fatal diseases. Other pieces maybe able to improve our way of life; perhaps allow us to increase critical thinking within humans and removing ignorance from the world.

When people volunteer, they know that when testing new machines their lives would be at risk. As part of the contract, we want to honor their deaths for science. We keep the body in order to cleanse it and make it fit for a funeral and we await a call from the subject’s relatives upon how they want the burial procedure. If the person has no relative (most of our subjects are from this category) then we take them to our burial chambers, where we preserve them in their own individual capsules with a plaque about their great accomplishments for science alongside their name. In both cases, we keep a bit of blood in order to continue the research (in their contract as well).

As for most of them being assassins (or related to them), that may be true. Many assassins have joined Abstergo Industries because they have more of a choice and opinion with us. They are not mistreated and not looked upon as killing machines for hire. Since they were part of the assassins and have left that faction for the good and better, there is no one to claim the bodies if they die. Therefore we also take care of them and do the same as we do to all of out test subjects.

We truly are not evil in any way. We only aim to create a better world for us all.
